SAM DANTONE

November 6 - December 6, 2014

Artist Reception: Friday, November 7th, 6:00 - 8:00 PM

Sam Dantone's exhibit will include large paintings, one of his signature tree sculptures, and several mixed media pieces.  Sam is well known for his thought provoking, and masterfully crafted illustrations depicting otherly worlds that evoke an insightful commentary of social unrest.  Sam best describes this effect in his artist statement, “Despite my creative variances, one thread stitches all of my art together...my critique on man’s apparent love for life and his constant destruction of it.”

Sam’s ability to illuminate a pensive and poignant awareness of current affairs, is often complimented by his ability to render highly effective symbolism in his sign-making for the Florence community as well.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Not once in my life do I know a time when I have not been an artist. My father tells that I once copied the Kleenex logo from the side of the box, at age three. I tribute my abilities to naive confidence and other’s positive attention. As a kid, drawing was magical. The simple act of sketching a character or cool car could create a gathering of smiling faces.

As a many faceted artist, I avoid being labeled as any one type of artist. My work straddles both the commercial and the fine art worlds. I use any medium the moment calls for and I am comfortable working in any dimension. The styles I work in range widely, and are subject to my fancy.

Despite my creative variances, one thread stitches all of my art together...my critique on man’s apparent love for life and his constant destruction of it.
