Charlie Chaplin's

The Kid, A Dog's Life &

The Immigrant

| December 12 and 13

Film: In 1921 comedic film was elevated to true art when Charlie Chaplin directed his first feature length film, The Kid. A story about an orphaned boy and the little tramp who raises him, the film marked cinema's first major step into dramatic comedy. Considred one of Chaplin's greatest achievements, this is the film that changed history. Accompanying the feature presentation will be two of Chaplin's greatest shorts: The Immigrant and A Dog's Life. This is the perfect trio for the holiday season.

Enjoy these films as they were meant to be enjoyed, with a live piano player, live sound effects, and authentic movie concessions from the era.

Piano accompaniment provided by Smilin' Dave Craddock.

Preshow Dinner/Discussion: While everyone in Hollywood rushed to create “talkies”, Charlie Chaplin insisted that silent film was the medium of true artists. Come see why. From epic classics like the original Ten Commandments to the science fiction classic Metropolis, silent film retains a powerful influence over art and film to this day. Learn about the business, the techniques, the highs and the lows of those who made cinematic art.

Presented in conjunction with Florence’s City Lights Cinemas. City Lights Cinema will be presenting Chaplin’s greatest cinematic achievement 'City Lights' in a grand December gala.

Dinner provided by Becca of Shed Bakery.

Friday Dinner: Little tramp cold fried chicken served with poor boy picnic potato salad and Southern-style biscuts with honey and butter. Housemade blue cheese dressing with veggies and a baker's pound cake with fresh berries and whipped cream complete the meal.

Saturday Lunch: Creamy egg salad sandwiches served with a sweet and tangy slaw and fresh fruit salad. Enjoy carrot cake squares with cream cheese icing for desert.

Vegetarian option provided by the gallery: Gourmet lettuce and kale salad with slivered almond, edamame beans, cranberries, and orange mandarin slices, served with artisan bread. Variety of salad dressings available at the gallery.
